WHAT IS KENDO?
Kendo, “The way of the sword”, is a traditional Japanese martial art, similar to fencing. Originally created to preserve the sword arts after the need for the samurai declined, it has become a popular martial art and sport in Japan, and is gaining popularity worldwide. Kendo is inclusive to all genders and levels of experience, and we welcome enquiries from those with a disability regarding the accessibility of Kendo.
OUR CLUB
Oxford University Kendo Club is open to new members of all levels, including beginners.
Neither previous experience with martial arts or great level of fitness is required for beginners, nor is equipment necessary to start.
There are numerous opportunities to compete with the club, most notably in the varsity match against Cambridge, as well as at competitions around the country. We also regularly host student visitors from Japan.
